Brother’s Brother Foundation Sends Requested Medical Books, Medical and Surgical Supplies to Iraq
April 3, 2008
Mr. Jack Farrell, formerly with McGraw-Hill Publishing who currently manages the activities of American Associations of Publishers (AAP), Medical Group, contacted BBF’s Education Coordinator, Carol Taylor, with a project to send books to 20 medical colleges in Iraq . This project of AAP came at the request of Dr. Abdul Hadi Al Khalili, the U.S. Iraq Cultural Attaché. A list of the most needed books from numerous medical book publishers was created. Mr. Farrell sent out requests to potential donors and asked that they forward any contributions to Brother’s Brother Foundation. Working with partner agency Life for Relief and Development, BBF is coordinating the shipment of the books received to the 20 medical schools and teaching hospitals in Iraq. Dr. Khalili and Mr. Farrell visited BBF on April 4th to review the donations, valued at over $350,000. They are thrilled to see so many donations from noted medical publishers. Donors included American Academy of Pediatrics, American Psychiatric Publishing, American Public Health Association, American Society for Microbiology Press, Elsevier, F.A. Davis, Hografe & Huber Publishers, Jones and Bartlett, McGraw-Hill, New England Journal of Medicine, Oxford University Press, Thieme Medical Publishers and John Wiley and Sons, Inc. In addition, medical and surgical supplies will be sent with the book donation. Part of this donation comes to BBF from TEVA Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.
